Featured Projects

We invest extensively in research and development to create new and innovative methods and technologies. From initial project design to equipment manufacturing and analysis, we strive to push the boundaries of applied fisheries research.

Juvenile White Sturgeon Telemetry

Client: Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation

Our goal is to identify critical habitats for juvenile White Sturgeon in the Pitt River watershed to support management and recovery. We use robust acoustic and passive integrated transponder (PIT) telemetry methods to tag and monitor, free-living juvenile sturgeon (< 100 cm), to address uncertainties regarding the migration behaviour and habitat use of this key life stage.

Portage Creek Chinook Salmon Recovery Program

Client: St’át’imc Government Services

The Portage Chinook recovery program is led by SGS Environment in collaboration with IFR and support from DFO and BC Hydro. The program will provide key information to preserving and managing the endangered Portage Creek Chinook population. Through innovative and robust methods, the program will provide a high-precision estimate of juvenile and spawner abundance within Portage Creek to quantify enhancement success. Important information on migration timing and proportionate natural influence (PNI) will be collected to inform future management and enhancement activities. The program will bring together local Indigenous communities from St'át'imc Nation, DFO, BC Hydro, and InStream Fisheries Research.
